Wash and trim the green beans, removing the ends from both sides.
Add the beans to a skillet with a lid, pour in the water, and put the lid on.
Simmer for 6 to 8 minutes, until the water has evaporated and the beans are just tender.
Remove the lid, add a splash of olive or avocado oil and the minced garlic, and saute for 2 minutes until fragrant. Add a sprinkle of salt and pepper.
Add the soy sauce, sesame oil, and maple syrup, and stir well to coat.
Stir in the sesame seeds and cook, stirring often, until the green beans have a slight char and are tender but still hold their shape. Do not overcook. Serve warm.
