Wash and trim the green beans, removing the ends from both sides.
Add the beans to a skillet with a lid, pour in the water, and put the lid on.
Simmer for 6 to 8 minutes, until the water has evaporated and the beans are just tender.
Remove the lid, add a splash of olive or avocado oil and the minced garlic, and saute for 2 minutes until fragrant. Add a sprinkle of salt and pepper.
Add the soy sauce, sesame oil, and maple syrup, and stir well to coat.
Cook, stirring often, until the green beans have a slight char and are tender but still hold their shape (another 2-3 minutes). Sprinkle with sesame seeds and serve warm.
