How To Make Beef and Bean Air Fryer Tacos

The Ingredients

Bean & Beef air fryer tacos ingredients + substitutions

Ground Beef: Provides rich flavor and protein. I like to buy an extra lean ground beef (85-20) which I find it less greasy
Substitutes: Ground turkey, ground chicken, or plant-based crumbles.

Taco Seasoning + Water: You can make your own taco seasoning but I always stock up on Siete Mild Taco seasoning
Creates that classic, saucy taco filling.
Substitutes: Homemade seasoning (chili powder, cumin, garlic powder, paprika, salt).

White Onion (Optional): Adds depth and a slight sweetness to the beef. You can totally omit onion if you don’t have it or don’t want to go through the process of dicing it.
Substitutes: Yellow onion, red onion, or omit.

Tomato Paste (Optional): Enhances richness and adds a subtle tang. I don’t normally add it but it does add a nice flavour and helps the ground beef stay together better
Substitutes: Salsa or a small amount of tomato sauce.

Refried Beans: Adds creaminess, fiber, and extra protein. I always have a can in my pantry. Use leftovers on nachos or with breakfast tacos!
Substitutes: Mashed black beans, pinto beans, or skip if preferred.

Shredded Cheese: Melts into the filling and helps bind everything together. I like to shred my own!
Substitutes: Monterey Jack, mozzarella, pepper jack, or dairy-free cheese.

Tortillas: Holds everything together and crisps up beautifully. I used these!
Substitutes: Corn tortillas (for a more authentic texture) or low-carb wraps.

Toppings (Lettuce, Salsa, Greek Yogurt): Add freshness, acidity, and creaminess after cooking. You can add avocados, corn etc.
Substitutes: Sour cream, guacamole, pico de gallo, or hot sauce.

What You Need

The Steps

  • In a skillet over medium heat, cook the ground beef until browned. Add diced onion (if using) and cook until softened. Stir in taco seasoning, water, and tomato paste (if using). Simmer for 3–5 minutes until thickened.
  • Lay out your tortillas. Spread about 2 tablespoons of refried beans on one half, then add 1/4 cup taco beef and a generous sprinkle of shredded cheese. Fold the tortilla in half to create a taco and press down.
  • Preheat air fryer to 375°F. Lightly spray tacos with oil (optional for extra crispiness). Place in a single layer and cook for 6–8 minutes, flipping halfway, until golden and crispy. Option to sprinkle a little cheese on top. Read blog post for oven/stove top instructions.
  • Once cooked, open slightly and fill with shredded lettuce, salsa, and a spoonful of Greek yogurt.
  • Serve immediately.
  • Store leftover tacos in an air tight container for up to 4 days.

Recipe Tips

  • If you're hosting a big group I suggest baking them in the oven because you do them all at once vs having to batch air fry them.
  • You can make these for mealprep and reheat them and then fill with your favorite toppings or just bring some salsa to dip.
