If you love the perfect balance of sweet heat and crispy chicken, these homemade hot honey chicken wings are about to become your new favorite recipe. Sticky, spicy, and irresistibly crunchy, these wings deliver bold flavor with simple ingredients you can make right at home. Whether you’re hosting game day, planning a casual get-together, or craving a fun dinner, hot honey wings are always a hit.

This recipe gives you restaurant-quality wings without deep frying or complicated steps. Crispy on the outside, juicy on the inside, and coated in a glossy hot honey glaze — every bite is packed with flavor.

Why You’ll Love These Hot Honey Chicken Wings

What makes these hot honey wings so special is the contrast of flavors. The honey adds sweetness, the heat brings just enough kick, and the crispy wings tie everything together. They’re bold without being overwhelming and easy enough to make any night of the week.

Another reason to love this recipe? It’s flexible. You can adjust the spice level to suit your taste, making it perfect for both heat lovers and those who prefer a milder wing.

Crispy Wings Made Easy at Home

Achieving crispy wings at home doesn’t require a fryer. With the right technique, these crispy baked chicken wings come out golden and crunchy while staying juicy inside. Cooking them in the oven or air fryer keeps things simple and less messy while still delivering amazing texture.

While the wings cook, the hot honey sauce comes together in minutes. It’s a simple combination that transforms plain wings into something truly crave-worthy.

Sweet Heat from Homemade Hot Honey

The star of this recipe is the hot honey sauce. Warm honey mixed with spicy elements creates a sticky glaze that clings perfectly to the wings. The sweetness balances the heat, making the sauce addictive and incredibly versatile.

If you have extra hot honey sauce left over, don’t let it go to waste. It’s amazing drizzled over pizza, fried chicken, roasted vegetables, biscuits, or even cornbread.

Perfect for Game Day, Parties, or Dinner

These homemade hot honey chicken wings are ideal for game day spreads, parties, or casual family dinners. They’re easy to scale up for a crowd and can be prepped ahead of time to make hosting stress-free.

Serve them with ranch or blue cheese dressing and a side of celery or veggies for the ultimate wing experience. Leftovers reheat well and stay flavorful, making them just as good the next day.

A Wing Recipe You’ll Make Again and Again

Crispy, sticky, sweet, and spicy, these homemade hot honey chicken wings deliver everything you want in a wing recipe. They’re simple to make, packed with bold flavor, and guaranteed to impress.

Once you try these wings, you may never go back to store-bought or takeout again. Homemade really is better — especially when hot honey is involved.

How To Make Hot Honey Chicken Wings

The Ingredients

  • chicken wings: Chicken wings are the star of this recipe, delivering juicy meat and crispy skin when cooked properly. Using a mix of drumettes and flats gives you the perfect balance of texture and flavor.
Substitutes: Party wings (pre-cut), chicken drumsticks for a larger option, or boneless chicken thighs cut into pieces (note: texture will be different).

  • baking powder: Baking powder is the secret to ultra-crispy wings when baking or air frying. It helps dry out the skin and promotes browning without affecting flavor.
Substitutes: There’s no perfect swap for baking powder, but you can omit it and pat wings very dry for decent crispiness. Do not substitute baking soda, as it will leave a bitter taste.

  • honey: Honey creates the signature sticky sweetness in hot honey wings. It balances the heat from the hot sauce and gives the wings a glossy, irresistible finish.
Substitutes: Maple syrup, agave nectar, or a blend of honey and brown sugar.

  • Butter: Butter adds richness and helps mellow the heat from the hot sauce, creating a smooth, well-rounded glaze.
Substitutes: Ghee, dairy-free butter, or olive oil (flavor will be slightly different).

  • Frank’s RedHot Sauce: Frank’s provides classic wing flavor with a balanced vinegar-forward heat that pairs perfectly with honey and butter.
Substitutes: Any cayenne-style hot sauce, Louisiana hot sauce, Cholula, or sriracha (for a slightly sweeter, thicker sauce).
